250 Years of Jewish History

Join us on a journey through Swedish-Jewish history from the late 1700s to the postwar period. We also share the story of the old synagogue at Själagårdsgatan 19 and the Jewish life that unfolded there.

Shul! The synagogue in the Old town

The tour takes us back to the old synagogue that once stood here on Själagårdsgatan 19 and to the life that unfolded in this room between 1795 and 1870. We explore what a shul was, the ctivities that have filled the space, and how it once looked. We highlight the people and stories that shaped the congregation and describe why it outgrew this shul, how the building later changed function, and how the museum opened almost 150 years afterwards.

Anna Riwkin – A Swedish Jewish Photographer

Discover Anna Riwkin’s important, but often forgotten, photographs of Swedish Jewish life. The exhibition also displays previously unknown personal photos, photo albums and archival materials, alongside some of Riwkin’s most legendary photographs
