Wrapping of time
June 25th – August 30th
The Jewish Museum presents five works by textile artist Alma Winkler. The sculptures consist of everyday objects linked to the artist’s memories. The objects have been wrapped in hand-dyed strips of fabric using the shibori technique. By layering them, the artist holds on to memories tied to each object and explores the fleeting nature of memory. The works reflect the role of collective memory in Jewish tradition and history. When shown in the museum’s permanent exhibition, the sculptures become part of the museum, where objects and memories are preserved.
